Helpful reflection. I have a similar reflection just posted on my blog in connection with a talk I gave in the context of a secular conference on livable communities, with a focus on elder affairs. See titusonmission.wordpress.com. – Titus Presler

God warned us centuries ago that these days were coming. In 2Ti 4:3 He said; “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. I ask you, what could be more tickling to those who don’t know the Truth, than to hear their pastor say; “All you gotta do is take steps 1, 2, and 3 and you will be rich beyond the dreams of avarice!...and don’t forget to tuck in that generous love gift addressed to yours truly!” Because these have turned aside to myths they are susceptible to any snake oil salesman who comes down the pike. At worst they are idolaters who reveal their true hearts desire THE LOVE OF MONEY! What’s really sad is that God never promised anyone that they would be rich. On the contrary, we read things like 2Ti 3:12 which state; “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” Jesus Himself declared in Joh 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." We must tell anyone who will listen that it’s not “All about them” but rather it’s all about HIM! Heb 12:1-2 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Thanks for the good post Dan!
Soli Deo Gloria

Hi Dan

I've written a response John Piper's article in my blog, which can be found here:

http://starlingford.wordpress.com/2009/06/27/keeping-an-unplucked-eye-on-things/

I would invite you to take a look and comment on it. You may disagree with it; on the other hand, you may find some of Piper's inconsistencies as peculiar as I do.

Thanks,
Gavin

Hello;

Unfortunately, the source problem with evangelism is that the Gospel is misunderstood or not taught at all in many many churches.

We have taken the message of forgiveness of sin and justification thru faith in Christ, for a life enhancement and self improvement.

If we don't understand the "REAL GOSPEL" then how can we go out and share it with others? How can we have a burden to reach the lost? If we dont understand that people without Jesus will go to Hell, how can we care to talk to our unsaved family members?

If we teach the real message from the pulpits, a natural response from the people has to be to go and share the Gospel.

Thanks for reading!
